Cluster Set To Give Tricity Cos CMMI Approval
Economic Times, December 5, 2006

THERE will be more checks on software quality now in Chandigarh. A software quality cluster, on the pattern of two such clusters in Delhi, for software companies in the Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula tricity region was launched on Monday. Netsmartz India and Safaltek are among the pioneer members of the cluster. Cluster members will be given training and assessment services by CyberQ Consulting, New Delhi, for achieving compliance with the Capability Maturity Model-Integrated (CMMI) developed by Software Engineering Institute (SEI), USA. CyberQ is said to be a leading consulting organisation and thought leader in the area of software process improvement and information security. CyberQ has provided training and audit services in these areas to over 150 organisations across the globe. The two clusters in Delhi are facilitated by Nasscom and CyberQ. The cluster in the tri-city is being co-ordinated by a city-based software quality consultant and MD of Interlink Technologies, Simi Hans, who has taken both Netsmartz India, Safaltek and other reputed software organisations of the tri-city, including Second Foundation, Mobera and Smartdata, through their software process improvement projects and ISO certifications.

Talking to ETon Monday, Ms Hans said there were two such clusters of four to five software companies each in the Delhi region and there’s also a possibility of the tri city having one more such cluster. However, an organisation to achieve compliance with CMMI would need to cough up a one-time payment of Rs XX lakh. Strongly advocating that a robust process base is essential for any organisation that plans to scale up in an organised and sustainable mode, she said the SEICMMI is a great model for software organisations to map their process with. This process, she said, takes around a year to implement and there is no way that an organisation would fall below the standard that it has achieved and maintained. Chandigarh administration IT director of Manjit Brar felt that this initiative will take both the organisations -Netsmartz India and Safaltek - a long way into establishing their process maturity levels at a superior plane. He said CMMI implementation will bring further international acceptance to the quality of services provided by these organisations. Safaltek CEO Rajan Vasudevan said besides the benefits he was looking for as an organisation, his major motivation was that it would help scale up the performance quality of his team members.

On the other hand, Netsmartz India COO Manipal Singh said all his team members were looking forward to the challenge where they would get to benchmark themselves with the best-in-class software organisations.
